A propose high-speed train linking Houston to Dallas-Ft. Worth initially was projected to cost $10 billion; that estimate has exploded to over $30 billion. The private company that sought to build it ran into difficulty securing the land for the rail line, and is now relying on eminent domain. There's also little hope for profit as current Amtrak lines in Texas are among the lead profitable in its network. Nevertheless, taxpayers are being dragged into the mix through a partnership with Amtrak and a $500,000 impact study!
