WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Right now, the U.S. Department of Education is under the Doge axe.
The potential dismantling of the cabinet-level agency is being met with resistance from Democratic lawmakers and teachers unions across the country.
But a government watchdog group reached out to the CBS12 News I-Team about a scathing report it’s about to publish on the Department of Education’s questionable spending of millions of tax dollars.
The group behind this report is called Open the Books. They are at the forefront of what they call a "transparency revolution."
It’s important to remember, most school funding comes from state and local sources, but Congress does give hundreds of billions of our federal tax dollars to the Dept. of Education every year.
